Former Hillsong United Members Ben Fielding & Reuben Morgan Explain The Meaning Behind Their Worship Collective’s Name “CXMMXNS.” After leaving Hillsong United, worship leaders Ben Fielding and Reuben Morgan joined forces to create their own worship collective, CXMMXNS, a name that carries both spiritual and symbolic significance.

In a recent interview, Fielding shared the story behind the choice: “We decided on the name CXMMXNS (Commons). It’s like a common space, like in parts of the world like the UK. It’s literally like common land in the middle of a built-up area that belongs to no one. It’s a space for everybody to come and exist and be. So we loved that picture.”
The name is more than just a reference to shared spaces—it’s also deeply spiritual. The Xs in CXMMXNS represent Christ, making the name a reflection of the collective’s mission: “Christ in common. That’s the thing that unifies us as worshippers and certainly everybody who’s collaborating on the commons,” Fielding explained.
CXMMXNS is designed to be a resource for worshippers and church communities worldwide. “The Commons exists to inspire worship, to help the church sing, to help people worship. Every song kind of goes through those filters. We’re trying to write songs that are a worship leader’s best friends, songs that will help with what we are doing on a weekly basis,” Fielding said.
By combining the talents of two of Hillsong United’s most influential songwriters, CXMMXNS seeks to provide music that transcends traditional worship settings, creating a space where worship is communal, authentic, and accessible. The project reflects Fielding and Morgan’s vision of uniting believers through music, offering songs that not only resonate spiritually but also serve as practical tools for weekly worship experiences.
CXMMXNS is more than just a name—it’s a declaration of purpose: a shared space where Christ is at the centre, inviting worshippers everywhere to come together in song and faith.
