Bafundzie Releases Debut Album “Thus Says The Lord.” South African gospel artist and worship leader Bafundzie has officially released her debut album, Thus Says The Lord, opening a new chapter in a musical journey shaped by classical training, worship and faith.
Born Bafundzisiwe Mavuso, the Johannesburg-based singer, songwriter and producer has spent years developing a sound that brings together her classical roots and passion for gospel music. With Thus Says The Lord, she presents a project she considers the result of obedience and a response to what she believes God entrusted to her.
The album title draws from the biblical phrase “Thus says the Lord”, reflecting the project’s focus on divine instruction, worship and proclamation. Bafundzie’s musical journey began when she was six years old, singing for her mother and siblings at home. She later developed her vocal abilities through choral music during her childhood and teenage years before intentionally pursuing gospel music.
Her background has given her a versatile vocal style that moves between classical influence and contemporary worship. Over the years, she has led worship at gatherings including Yonder Worship Center and Jesus This, Jesus That, while also taking her music beyond South Africa, including a performance at the TLC Events Centre in Eswatini.
Before unveiling the full album, Bafundzie introduced listeners to her sound through singles including Gcwalisa Lendzawo and Shammah (The Lord Is Here), both released in 2025. The songs offered an early look at the worship direction that would later shape her debut project.
Thus Says The Lord was recorded live in Johannesburg in 2024, allowing Bafundzie to capture the atmosphere of corporate worship while bringing together her roles as a singer, songwriter and worship leader.
The song titles offer an early glimpse into the spiritual direction of the project. The Kingdom points towards the reign and presence of God, while This Is That carries a clear biblical connection to Acts 2, where Peter links the outpouring of the Holy Spirit to the prophecy spoken through Joel.
Yeshua Hamashiach, meaning Jesus the Messiah, places Christ at the centre of the project and reflects Bafundzie’s worship-focused approach to music.
For Bafundzie, Thus Says The Lord presents a body of worship music rooted in obedience and centred on the message she believes God has entrusted to her for this generation.
