“I have a tattoo on my leg,” Brandon Lake shared. “I felt like God told me around, gosh, I don’t know, maybe I was 24, 25 years old, it was finally the time to do my own record. So I decided, okay, well, I don’t have any money. I’m gonna have to ask people for money and raise this money.”
That challenge sparked an idea that was as bold as it was personal. Instead of traditional fundraising, he invited supporters to invest in the project with a unique offer that would leave a permanent mark on his own body.
“So I got a little creative,” he explained with a laugh, “and I said, if you give me a certain amount of money, I’ll tattoo your name on my leg. And so I have 23 last names tattooed on my thighs to get that record done.”
Those 23 last names became part of him in a literal sense, etched into his thighs as a record of the people who believed in his vision before it had any real momentum. Each name represents a story of early trust, support, and shared faith in what he was building.
For Lake, the decision was never just about money. It was about conviction and willingness to follow what he believed was a calling, even when the path looked unusual to others. He later summed up the mindset behind it by saying, “I was willing to do anything short of sin to get this record done.”
