Davide Mutendji Shares Story Behind The Making of “Jesus The Only” With Tiffany Hudson. A songwriting session that nearly fell apart has become the origin of a powerful new worship anthem for Elevation Young Adults, according to a story shared by Davide Mutendji.

Mutendji recounted that the session, initially planned as a routine writing meeting, was repeatedly delayed, leaving participants fatigued and uninspired by the time they gathered. Rather than beginning with music, the group spent the first hour venting frustrations, with many considering postponing the session altogether.

“We just wanted to vent,” Mutendji said, adding that the general expectation was that the session would be unproductive.

The turning point came when a team member, identified as Hannah, shared a melody she had been working on. Although the group had not intended to write that day, her suggestion shifted the atmosphere in the room.

What followed was an impromptu moment of prayer that evolved into a spontaneous expression of worship. Within hours, the group began singing a refrain that would later form the core of the song: “Jesus is the only one who is worthy.”

Participants described the scene as energetic and unrestrained, with individuals standing, clapping, and singing together as the melody took shape. The team recorded a rough version of the song during the session and continued refining it afterwards, exchanging voice notes late into the night.

By the following morning, the group moved quickly to complete the track. Mutendji said he encountered their young adults pastor, Sam, and shared news of the new song, suggesting it could be introduced at an upcoming chapel service if finalised in time.

Shortly thereafter, the event was publicly announced on the Elevation Young Adults social media page, inviting attendees to hear the new song at the next day’s gathering.

The team finalised the composition, assembled musicians, and rehearsed ahead of the service, despite lingering uncertainty about the outcome.

The song, now titled “Jesus The Only,” has since been described as a reflection of a central message of Christian worship: the worthiness of Jesus.

Mutendji’s account has resonated widely online, with many pointing to the story as an example of how unplanned moments can lead to meaningful creative and spiritual outcomes.
