HLE Wins SAMPRA Album Of The Year At SAMA32 For “The Ground We’re On.” Gospel powerhouse HLE has reached a defining moment in her career after taking home the prestigious SAMPRA Album of the Year award at the 32nd South African Music Awards on Saturday night.
The celebrated singer, whose real name is Hlengiwe Ntombela, was honoured for her acclaimed project The Ground We’re On during the star-studded ceremony at the Sun City Superbowl in North West on 15 August 2026.
The victory adds another major accolade to an already memorable SAMA32 campaign for HLE. Earlier in the awards, The Ground We’re On was recognised as the winner of Best Contemporary Faith Music Album, putting the gospel star firmly among the night’s biggest success stories.
The SAMPRA Album of the Year category brought together some of the strongest projects across South Africa’s musical landscape. HLE emerged at the top with a body of work that combines contemporary gospel sounds, vulnerable storytelling and a deeply spiritual message.
Her success came as little surprise to those who had been following the album’s awards journey. When the Album of the Year Top 5 nominees were announced in July, The Ground We’re On was already in contention alongside Amadodana Ase Wesile’s Monghali Mesia, Guy Buttery’s Orchestrations and other acclaimed projects representing a wide range of genres.
That recognition positioned HLE as one of the night’s leading contenders, and she ultimately converted the nomination into the biggest album prize of the evening.
SAMA32 itself brought together some of the country’s biggest musical names for a celebration of South African artistry, with the ceremony returning to the Sun City Superbowl in North West. The night delivered a wide range of performances and genre victories, including Makhadzi’s Best Traditional Music Album win, Nasty C’s Best Hip Hop Album triumph for Free, and Langa Mavuso’s victory for Best Produced Album with Therapy: The Other Side.
For HLE, however, the spotlight belonged to The Ground We’re On. The project’s double recognition at SAMA32 highlights the growing reach of contemporary faith music and its ability to compete at the highest levels of South Africa’s mainstream music industry.
