LO Worship Prepares to Stir Souls with Stripped-Back Acoustic Project
MONROE, LOUISIANA. Kaylea Mayo Coates Shares Heartfelt Origin Story Behind LO Worship’s Transformative Song “Open.” From a quiet bedroom moment to a room full of raised hands in surrender, LO Worship’s “Open” carries a testimony of divine timing and heartfelt vulnerability.

In a recent reflection, Kaylea Mayo Coates of LO Worship opened up about the deeply personal journey behind the worship anthem “Open.” The song, now resonating with congregations and listeners far and wide, was born not in a studio—but in a sacred moment of solitude in her childhood bedroom.
“It started in 2018,” Kaylea shared. “I was at my parents’ house, going through a season of life where I wasn’t getting what I wanted. It was in my prayer time, just me and the Lord, and I started singing.” That raw honesty birthed the chorus that would eventually anchor the song:
“I leave my heart open to You, and I’m holding back nothing from You.”
Years passed, and though the chorus lingered, the rest of the song remained unfinished—until a divinely timed Zoom call changed everything.
“Fast forward a couple of years, I connected with our friend Mark on a 40-minute Zoom call,” she recalled. “We finished the song, and it just felt really special and important.”
But it wasn’t until they performed “Open” at a conference that the full weight of its purpose became clear. “That September, we led it for the first time,” Kaylea said. “To see the room lift their hands in surrender, telling the Lord that nothing in their lives was off-limits—that was the moment we knew. God wanted to use this song to move people closer to surrender.”
That unforgettable atmosphere of openness and divine presence marked more than a milestone—it marked a movement.
What began as a private conversation with God has become a powerful invitation for others to do the same: to open their hearts, hold nothing back, and let God touch every corner of their lives.
And as Kaylea puts it, “something special happened in that room—we’ll never forget it.”
“Open” is more than a song—it’s a sacred space where honesty meets healing, and surrender becomes strength.
