L’loyd Cele Reflects On Career-Defining Moment Singing SA’s National Anthem
L’loyd Cele Reflects On Career-Defining Moment Singing SA’s National Anthem. South African gospel singer L’loyd Cele has described performing the national anthem at a recent rugby match between the Blue Bulls and New Zealand Rugby as one of the proudest moments of his life and career.

The singer took to social media to reflect on the experience, sharing an emotional account of standing before thousands of South Africans as he delivered “Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika” ahead of the match.
For Cele, the moment carried significance far beyond the performance itself. Looking out at a crowd united in song, he said he was overwhelmed by emotion as he thought about the journey that had brought him to that stage.
“I thought about the journey. The prayers. The sacrifices. The people who believed in me,” Cele wrote, before turning his gratitude towards God for remaining faithful throughout his career.
The performance became a powerful reminder of Cele’s journey as an artist, with the singer describing the opportunity as a moment he will never forget.
“This was one of the proudest moments of my life and my career,” he said.
Cele also expressed gratitude to Moonsport, the fans, his family and friends for their continued support, acknowledging the people who have stood behind him throughout his journey.
At the heart of his reflection, however, was his faith. Cele credited God with opening doors and making opportunities possible, describing the experience as something much bigger than himself.
“And to God… Thank You for opening doors no man can shut. For making the impossible possible. For Your faithfulness over my life,” he wrote.
The singer ended his message by surrendering the significance of the occasion to his faith, declaring: “This moment was bigger than me. All glory belongs to You.”
For Cele, singing the national anthem was more than a ceremonial performance. It was a deeply personal milestone that brought together his music, his country, the people who have supported him and the faith he says has carried him throughout his journey.
