Speaking after her wins, Tasha Cobbs Leonard opened up about the past year and a half, describing a season in which God drew her into a deeper level of personal fellowship and revealed aspects of His character she had not experienced before.

“God took me on a journey over the last year and a half where He just wanted to spend time, personal time with me, and I have seen sides of Him that I have never seen before,” she said. “The goodness of God and who He is is just absolutely amazing.”

The singer also expressed gratitude for the man who walked alongside her throughout the journey, acknowledging the significance of the moments that led to the occasion.

At the 57th Annual GMA Dove Awards, held on October 6, 2026, at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee, Cobbs Leonard won Contemporary Gospel Album of the Year for her self-titled album TASHA. She also took home Traditional Gospel Recorded Song of the Year for “Church,” her collaboration with John Legend.

Despite the recognition, her testimony centred on something beyond the awards themselves. Her remarks highlighted the value of the time she had spent growing in her relationship with God, suggesting that the personal encounters of the past 18 months had made the occasion particularly meaningful.

Cobbs Leonard, known for leading worship through songs that speak of faith, breakthrough and devotion, offered a glimpse into a quieter chapter of her spiritual journey. Rather than focusing solely on professional milestones, she spoke about God’s desire for personal time with her and the fresh understanding of His goodness that came through that experience.

Her husband, Kenneth Leonard Jr., has also been a partner in her life and ministry, supporting her journey as she continues to serve through music and worship.

As the Christian music community gathered for an evening celebrating achievements in gospel and contemporary Christian music, Cobbs Leonard’s words brought attention to the relationship with God that remains central to her life.

Her double win marked another significant moment in her music career, but her testimony pointed to a deeper source of gratitude. For Cobbs Leonard, the past year and a half has been about more than public recognition. It has been an opportunity to know God more intimately and discover more of His goodness.
