I still love the church. It is painfully imperfect, broken and at times, straight up dysfunction (1)

Released October 2, the album was recorded in front of a sold-out crowd at Austin City Limits’ Moody Theatre in Austin, Texas. The project captures Wells and a host of guest artists performing together in a live setting, turning songs from his recent studio album Breathe On It into a communal worship experience.

The guest lineup includes Tiffany Hudson of Elevation Worship, Naomi Raine, Tasha Cobbs Leonard, Israel Houghton, Hulvey, Paul and Hannah McClure, Pastor Mike Jr., Red Rocks Worship, Abbie Gamboa, Sarai Rivera, Todd Galberth, Robert Angel and Davies., among others.

Wells has described the project as an expression of his desire to bring people from different backgrounds together through worship.

“This isn’t just a gospel album, a Spanish-language album, a Black album, or a White album,” Tauren Wells said. “Of course we can’t cover it all, but the record is an expression of my goal to draw everyone out of the little worlds that we separately exist in and into a place of unity.”

The album features the title track “Here Comes The Church” with Tiffany Hudson, “What A Miracle Feels Like” with Naomi Raine, as well as the bilingual songs “Thank You For The Cross” and “Gracias Por La Cruz.” Wells also shares the stage with Tasha Cobbs Leonard and Israel Houghton on other moments across the project.

For Wells, the album reflects a significant chapter in his life as both an artist and pastor. He and his wife, Lorna, planted Church of Whitestone in 2024, with the live recording taking place at the same Moody Theatre venue that serves as the church’s home base.

The songs were shaped during Wells’ church-planting season, with the artist previously explaining that they “flowed from my heart really throughout this whole church-planting season.”

“There’s nothing more beautiful than what God said He would build with His own hands, His church,” Wells added in a message to fans.

The release also comes ahead of a busy month for Wells. The eleven-time Grammy nominee is set to host the 57th Annual Dove Awards on October 6 for the fourth consecutive year. He is also among this year’s nominees and will soon take his new music on the road as part of the Air1 Worship Now Tour.

With Here Comes The Church, Wells brings together worship, gospel and contemporary Christian music voices for a live project centred on the idea of people worshipping together despite their differences.
