During the conversation, Chandler Moore read aloud a letter from his mother written while he was undergoing inpatient treatment, forty days he describes as his “wilderness” experience in late 2023.

The letter, dated Saturday, December 2nd at 9:46 a.m., conveys the raw ache of separation, enduring family love, and unwavering faith in the face of hardship. In her words, Moore’s mother expressed her longing: “To say I miss you is an understatement, and the fact that I missed your call last night sent me into a spiral of sadness. My heart was so sick I just had to go to bed.”

She reflected on moving forward with faith, finding comfort in her grandchildren and the family’s devoted nanny, whom she described as a divine blessing. “The kids certainly help in bringing me joy and solace. There’s something about their presence that reminds me of you,” she wrote. She praised the nanny’s care and cooking, noting that “God certainly went before us to bring her into our lives for such a time as this.”

The letter mixed updates with warmth and humour. Moore’s granddad remained playful, even pretending to punch her in the belly and tugging her braids while in an “honorary mood,” showing both humour and attentiveness. Granddaughter Crew was growing into a smart, sassy, wild, and beautiful child, expanding her vocabulary and seeking attention. Young grandson Preston displayed early signs of spirited rivalry by snatching her pacifier. Moore’s grandmother, affectionately called Mama, stayed active and engaged, attending church even while awaiting surgery.

At its heart, the letter offered encouragement. “I know you are progressing in this space. I know you are healing in this space,” she wrote. “I pray such a peace upon you that will be perpetual, that will remain. You deserve it, keep on doing the work.” She affirmed the guiding hand of faith: “Everything is being worked out by God by faith. We believe it to be so.”

She concluded with profound love and anticipation: “I can’t wait to put my arms around you in celebration and congratulations on your commitment and survival during these seasons. You did it. I love you to life.”

By sharing this intimate letter, Chandler Moore highlighted a crucial chapter in his journey of healing from childhood trauma, addiction, and shame. The podcast episode, titled You Can’t Heal What You Won’t Let Anyone See, explores how openness, therapeutic support, and family love reshaped his marriage, fatherhood, creativity, and faith.
