Sidewalk Prophets Reveal The Creative Breakthrough That Shaped “Something Different” Album. Sidewalk Prophets are taking a heartfelt trip down memory lane as they celebrate the 11th anniversary of the presale launch for their third studio album, Something Different, sharing fresh insight into the creative journey that gave birth to one of their most beloved projects.

Marking the occasion on social media, the Christian band reflected on the intense yet rewarding songwriting process behind the album, revealing that many of its songs were written during a focused three-week retreat at a lake house in upstate New York.

Rather than chasing inspiration, the group described waiting patiently for what they call the “THAT’S IT” moment. It is the breakthrough when an idea, emotion, or spiritual impression finally transforms into the right lyric.

“Most of the time we’re moving ideas and words around like puzzle pieces,” the band shared. “You get tired, you get frustrated, you want to quit… and then IT happens. When that moment happens, everyone in the room high fives because everyone knows we just wrestled a piece of art into submission. Actually, it’s the art that wrestles us into submission.”

Their reflection paints a vivid picture of the creative highs and lows that shaped the record. For Sidewalk Prophets, songwriting was not simply a matter of talent or persistence. They believe every breakthrough carried the unmistakable fingerprint of God.

“The journey to the finished project is such a special one, and we know those moments aren’t accidental. God has His hand in it all,” the band continued. “We don’t take those moments lightly, and we are so proud of the songs on this project.”

Released on August 28, 2015, through Fervent Records and Word Records, Something Different was produced by Grammy-winning songwriter Seth Mosley and showcased songs such as “Something Different,” “Prodigal,” “To Live Is Christ,” “Come to the Table,” and “Everything in Awe.”

The album represented an important step forward for the Nashville-based group, expanding their sound while remaining grounded in the Christ-centred storytelling that first resonated with listeners on albums like These Simple Truths and Live Like That.

Now, more than a decade later, the anniversary serves as more than a celebration of an album release. It is a reminder of the patience, perseverance, and faith that fueled its creation. The band concluded their post with a reference to Psalm 150, pointing followers back to a biblical call to praise that echoes the spirit behind the project.

Eleven years after fans first placed their presale orders, the memories remain as vivid as ever for Sidewalk Prophets. The long days of arranging lyrics, the moments of frustration, the joyful celebrations after creative breakthroughs, and the conviction that God was guiding every step continue to define Something Different as a meaningful chapter in the band’s journey and in the lives of listeners who have carried its songs with them ever since.
