Multi-platinum Gospel artist Michael W. Smith has officially joined the upcoming biblical feature Daniel and the Fiery Furnace as an executive producer. The announcement was made on Instagram alongside the debut of the film’s official poster, giving audiences their first look at the highly anticipated production.
Directed by filmmaking brothers Matthew and Daniel Kooman of Unveil Studios, the movie retells the opening chapters of the Book of Daniel. It follows Daniel, portrayed by Mena Massoud, best known for Disney’s Aladdin, as he and his fellow Hebrew exiles remain faithful to God while serving in Babylon under King Nebuchadnezzar, played by Elijah Alexander of The Chosen. The story culminates in the dramatic account of the fiery furnace, where unwavering faith is tested in the face of a king’s decree.
Describing the film, the production team called it, “A story of unshakable faith, exile, and a God who meets His people in the flames.”
The film is set to arrive in cinemas across the United States on September 18, 2026.
Smith’s role as executive producer adds to his already meaningful involvement with the project. The Gospel music icon recently recorded a new rendition of his beloved worship anthem “Awesome God” for the film’s soundtrack, while the movie’s original score is being composed by his son, Tyler Michael Smith.
The filmmakers have repeatedly highlighted their commitment to staying faithful to Scripture throughout the production process. To help ensure biblical accuracy, they worked closely with pastors, theologians, and biblical historians while even keeping Bibles on set during filming so dialogue and scenes remained grounded in the biblical text.
The project also received significant support from the faith community through a crowdfunding campaign that raised $1.2 million, helping turn the ambitious vision into reality.
