“In the Presence of the King” centres on the wonder of the Incarnation, reflecting on Jesus coming into the world as a child and calling listeners to respond with worship. The song was written by Gayle alongside Ryan Kennedy, Melanie Slay, Mitch Wong and Kyle Lee.
The single also offers an introduction to the themes running through His Name Shall Be, with the project focusing on the identity of Jesus and the significance of His birth. The album brings together original worship songs and fresh arrangements of Christmas classics, including “Repeat the Sounding Joy” and “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.” Its title track draws inspiration from Isaiah 9.
His Name Shall Be marks a new chapter for Gayle, who has built her ministry around congregational worship and Scripture-rooted songwriting. The Buffalo native, who now lives in Houston, has released projects including Lord You Are My Song in 2018, Endless Praise in 2021 and the live album Rejoice in 2024.
Her catalogue includes widely recognised worship songs such as “I Speak Jesus” and “Thank You Jesus for the Blood.” “I Speak Jesus” has become particularly prominent within contemporary worship, reaching churches and listeners around the world.
Charity Gayle also leads worship alongside her husband, Ryan Kennedy, bringing together gospel influences, congregational arrangements and biblical themes throughout her music.
With “In the Presence of the King” introducing the project, His Name Shall Be is set to provide a collection of Christmas worship songs centred on Jesus and the message of His coming.
The album will be released on October 23, with pre-save options currently available across major streaming platforms.
