Lizzie Morgan Reveals The Inspiration Behind Red Worship’s “Memories” Red Worship’s “Memories,” featuring Lizzie Morgan, was born out of a tired room, a final day of songwriting and a simple question about what was still missing from the group’s upcoming live album WITNESS.
The song came together during the final day of a songwriting camp in Nashville, when Morgan, Adale “Dale” Jackson and Anthony Brown gathered at a church to consider what the record still needed. By that point, the writers were already feeling the weight of several days of creating music.
“When we wrote Memories, it was the last day of the writing camp, which, if you don’t know, the last day normally everybody is exhausted and just so tired,” Lizzie Morgan recalled.
Despite the fatigue, the gathering sparked an idea that would become one of the defining songs on WITNESS. As the three writers talked about the songs they already had, Morgan felt there was something important missing.
She wanted a song that would give listeners space to look back at what God had done in their lives and respond with gratitude.
“I’m a pastor’s kid, so [I] grew up with the Lord, have known Him since I was a little girl,” she said. “And so I just remember we really locked into that idea of taking time to look back at what He’s done and what’s our response to all that He’s done. And that’s how we wrote Memories.”
That idea became the foundation for the song, which turns personal remembrance into a communal declaration of gratitude.
“Memories” reflects on the journey of discovering God as both Father and Friend before building into a larger expression of thanksgiving. Its central message encourages listeners to pause and remember the ways God has carried them through different seasons of life.
The song’s repeated reminder, “I’ve got a memory,” gives the track its emotional centre. Rather than focusing only on the present, it points listeners toward the stories, moments and testimonies that can become reminders of God’s faithfulness.
For Morgan, that message is closely connected to her own upbringing. Raised in a Christian family and influenced by the ministry of her grandparents in Hendersonville, Tennessee, she has spent much of her life around the local church and worship ministry.
That personal history helped shape the perspective she brought into the writing room. “Memories” ultimately became more than another song for a live worship project. It became an opportunity to reflect on a lifetime of knowing God and to invite others to do the same.
Released in July 2026 ahead of WITNESS, “Memories” carries a message that is straightforward but deeply personal. It asks listeners to stop, look back and consider the moments that have shaped their faith.
For Morgan, Jackson and Brown, that message emerged on a day when everyone in the room was tired and ready for the songwriting camp to end. Yet the exhaustion did not stop the song from coming together.
Instead, the final day gave them the space to recognise what the record needed: a song about remembering. And from that Nashville writing session came a simple response to everything God has done: thank You.
