Terrian Looks Back On 2016 As The Year That Launched Her Music Career. Contemporary Christian artist Terrian recently took fans on a warm and reflective journey back to 2016, sharing a heartfelt set of throwback photos that captured a defining chapter in her life and career. The year marked the true beginning of her professional music path and a season packed with firsts, faith, and unforgettable experiences.

Posting with the playful caption, “Haha 2016!!! Lots of fun memories,” the singer-songwriter looked back on a whirlwind year that blended early career momentum with personal growth and spiritual discovery. Known today for her powerful voice and her time as a member of TobyMac’s DiverseCity band, Terrian’s reflections revealed just how much groundwork was laid during those twelve months.

The photo collection opened with a bold red afro, a standout look from the period when Terrian auditioned for American Idol. The Memphis native made it through to the Top 48 during Hollywood Week, a daring leap that ended short of the live shows but ultimately nudged her toward a clearer calling in Christian music.

Other snapshots documented meaningful milestones along the way. There were moments from her first performances with TobyMac in Canada, where she also met Amanda, a connection she fondly acknowledged. Fans also caught glimpses of her first motorcycle ride with Ian Woods, the man who would become her husband just two years later, as well as a pre-tour photoshoot with the cast of Rivals, the theatrical production that opened for Newsboys’ Love Riot Tour.

The montage pulled back the curtain on Terrian’s creative beginnings, too. Images showed her on set filming her first song and music video, “I Am Free,” a 2016 release that hinted at the independent sound she was developing. Studio moments from the Beatitudes project were also included, highlighting her involvement in the collaborative album inspired by the Sermon on the Mount.

Beyond music, Terrian shared snapshots of life’s simpler joys. From hiking in Gatlinburg with Ian to boating across a lake and spending time with her Hope Church family, the post reflected the community that grounded her. Lighthearted moments were sprinkled throughout, including a playful braid flip she joked nearly caused a neck injury, a cheerful pose with “Miss AnnaBelle,” and a friendly shoutout to “Ephie.”

One of the most striking memories was a performance for former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, a rare and humbling opportunity that signalled her expanding reach. Equally impactful was a mission trip to Spain, which Terrian described as life-changing and deeply formative.

The appearance of an Angel Street team photo underscored her passion for mentorship and empowerment, particularly her work supporting young girls through music and creative expression.

Nearly a decade on, these images stand as a vivid reminder of where it all began. From reality TV auditions and early tours to independent releases and a deepening faith, 2016 planted the seeds for a ministry that continues to flourish within contemporary Christian music.
