Sbu Noah Shares How Spiritual Moments Shape His Songwriting
Sbu Noah Reflects on a Defining Moment Behind ‘The Psalms of Sbu Noah’ Live Experience. South African gospel powerhouse Sbu Noah recently took fans on a heartfelt journey back in time by sharing a nostalgic billboard from his landmark 2021 live event, The Psalms of Sbu Noah.

The vibrant promotional image, captured outside the Theatre of Marcellus at Emperors Palace in Johannesburg, stirred a wave of emotion as the award-winning artist opened up about a deeply personal and defining season in his life and ministry.
The two-night event on 4 and 5 December 2021 marked a major turning point for Sbu Noah, born Sibusiso Desmond Mthembu. It came just after the profound loss of his mother, a grief that weighed heavily on him but also became the seed for a divine calling. “I had just lost Mom, and God tasked me with this vision. It took everything in me, and I’m glad I obeyed,” he revealed in a recent reflection.
Through the pain, Sbu Noah pressed on with unwavering faith. He used the event as a launchpad for fresh music that would later become essential parts of his Heavenly Psalms series. Songs like “Nxa Ngimbona”, “Surely Goodness”, and “Ikhaya Medley” were performed live for the very first time, months before their official studio versions were recorded and released.
Today, these tracks are beloved worship anthems featured on projects such as Heavenly Psalms – Level 2, recorded live at Goshen City Church in 2023, inspiring congregations across South Africa and beyond.
Presented by SbuNoah Music in partnership with One Gospel, the 2021 concert blended heartfelt worship, powerful performances, and a message of hope amid hardship. Tickets started at R250 and were sold through Computicket, with strict COVID-19 safety measures in place to protect attendees during the ongoing pandemic.
Sbu Noah’s strength during this challenging time speaks volumes about his faith and commitment. A multiple nominee and winner at prestigious awards like the Crown Gospel Music Awards, where he has been honoured as Best Male Artist and recognised for projects such as Hlala Nami Jesu, he balances his flourishing music career with his work as a healthcare professional. His story of turning personal sorrow into timeless worship music continues to resonate with fans who admire his consistency, excellence, and spiritual anointing.
