Hillsong Africa Moves Closer To Long-Awaited Worship Album Release. Hillsong Africa is giving the church another reason to look forward to what could become a significant new chapter for its local music ministry, with Africa Lead Pastor Scott “Sanga” Samways revealing that a local worship album is currently being produced.
Speaking during Sunday’s Heart For The Mission church service on 23 August 2026, Samways included the project among his prayers for the church, asking God to use the music to reach people across the continent and beyond.
He went on to pray that the songs would carry both an anthem-like quality and the intimacy of people who genuinely love Jesus, pointing to the project’s potential to serve as more than just a collection of worship songs.
“I’m asking God for our local worship album that is being produced right now, by the way, that it will touch Africa and go beyond,” Pastor Sanga said. “That those worship songs will carry an anthem and an intimacy of people’s hearts who love Jesus,” he added.
The revelation provided one of the clearest updates yet on Hillsong Africa’s developing local worship music project and comes as the church continues to emphasise its desire to impact the wider African continent. Hillsong Africa describes its mission as establishing 50 churches in 50 influential cities across Africa, while its vision includes building a church that helps build both a nation and a continent.
The album update also follows an EXCUSIVE INTERVIEW Worship Chronicle previously conducted with Hillsong Africa Worship Leader Hanan Barth, who offered insight into the team’s hopes for the project.
Asked whether audiences could eventually expect a full-length album from the Hillsong Africa Worship Team, Barth expressed enthusiasm while stressing that the team is focused first on serving its local church through music.
“Currently, our heart is to be a blessing and resource to our church in our worship expression through song, and that our worship would touch the continent and stir people to worship in spirit and in truth. So yes, all in due time and all by His design.”
Samways’ latest remarks suggest that the dream Barth spoke about is now moving further into reality, with the local worship album already in production.
For Hillsong Africa, the project also fits into a broader vision of developing a worship expression rooted in its local church while reaching beyond its walls. The church says it has a heart for authentic worship and wants its ministry to contribute to the establishment of God’s kingdom across Africa and the globe.
While no release date, tracklist or official album title has been announced, Samways’ confirmation that production is underway will likely heighten anticipation among Hillsong Africa’s worship community.
For now, the project remains firmly centred on the purpose Barth described: creating songs that bless the local church, carry an African worship expression and ultimately stir people to worship Jesus in spirit and in truth.
