Hope Darst Reveals What Worship Looked Like During Daughter’s Health Struggles. For Hope Darst, worship has not always meant singing at the top of her lungs. The Christian artist recently reflected on a difficult season when her daughter was dealing with significant health issues, explaining how the experience changed the way she understood worship in moments of fear and uncertainty.
A little over a year ago, the In The Mighty Name Of Jesus hitmaker found herself in a hospital waiting room with her daughter, petitioning God for her health and well-being. Rather than immediately turning to worship songs, Hope Darst said she reached for her Bible and began reading the Psalms aloud.
“Worship showed up in me literally pulling out my Bible and reading the Psalms out loud,” Darst shared. She recalled that some of those moments came through tears, prayer and fear, but she continued to seek God in the middle of the uncertainty.
For Darst, that experience highlighted the fact that worship does not always arrive through music. While there have been seasons when she has sung loudly and freely, she has also experienced worship through broken prayers, moments when she could barely get the words of a song out, and quiet moments alone in her shower, bedroom or car.
She described worship as a posture of continuing to cry out to God when circumstances become difficult, whether through a song, a prayer, or simply sitting in God’s presence through tears.
Darst hopes her experience encourages others who may find themselves struggling through their own difficult seasons. Worship, she explained, may sound like a song, but it may also look completely different.
“The posture of worship in your heart to call on the name of Jesus and to seek the Lord, that doesn’t have to change,” she said.
Whether worship comes through a loud Sunday morning song or a quiet prayer whispered at home, Darst’s reflection points to a faith that continues to seek God even when circumstances make worship feel difficult.
