Kingdmusic’s “JOY” Crowned Album of the Year at 13th Ingoma Awards. “This one is deeply personal. It all started with ‘Hallelujah’, the first song I wrote for this album, inspired by the birth of my daughter Onaka,” Kingdmusic shared while reflecting on the significance of the win. “From our Spotify Africa release party, to the live recording, worship nights and events we’ve been a part of across the country, this album has brought us together to worship. That’s the whole point.”

Released on 30 January 2026, JOY has become one of the defining releases in Kingdmusic’s recent career, bringing together contemporary Christian pop, R&B, gospel and worship across 10 tracks. The album takes its inspiration from Nehemiah 8:10 and the declaration that “the joy of the Lord is your strength”.

The project also features a diverse group of collaborators, including One House Music, Isaiah T. Roberts, Brazilian worship leader Luma Elpidio and South African artist Mégan Rose. Executive produced by Lufuno Muthala, JOY combines its faith-driven message with a nostalgic sound influenced by South African pop and bubblegum music from the 1970s, 1980s and early 2000s.

For Kingdmusic, the award represents more than another trophy. The album was shaped by personal experiences, family and a desire to create music that could bring people together in worship. Its journey has taken it from a Spotify Africa release celebration to live recordings, worship nights and events around the country.

The Venda-born worship leader also took a moment to thank the people who helped bring the project to life, including his team, featured artists and supporters who voted for JOY. He reserved special appreciation for his wife for her prayers and support behind the scenes.

“ALL GLORY TO JESUS!” he declared.

The Ingoma Awards were established to provide a platform for independent gospel musicians and continue to recognise talent making an impact across South Africa. The latest honour adds to Kingdmusic’s impressive collection of awards, following his South African Music Award win for Denga and his previous Ingoma recognition for Hold On.

The Album of the Year victory also comes at a fitting time, with Kingdmusic continuing to take JOY beyond streaming platforms and into live worship spaces. Following the awards, the artist was set to lead worship at Johannesburg’s Lyric Theatre, giving fans an opportunity to celebrate the milestone through music.

With its blend of personal testimony, nostalgia and contemporary worship, JOY has grown into more than an album for Kingdmusic. Its latest recognition at the Ingoma Awards further cements the project as a significant release in South African gospel music.
